ARACHNID WISDOM

The current mood of greenwitch at www.imood.com

moon phases

Now for those of you who may be a bit squeamish I would like to remind you that the name of this trainwreck is Spiderweb. Afterall we do weave a rather complicated web called life. And the spider is a wonderful symbol of the need to be survivalist in the process. Regardless of sentimentality. The particular variety of spider that now resides in the upper left of this page is a garden spider. She is really quite beautiful. Large with a vibrant yellow back and soft grey fuzzy head, she resides on a large web (the classic image of a spiderweb) in gardens. She sits on the center of her web waiting for a juicy garden pest to come along and be her lunch. There is a lovely garden spider that sometimes weaves her web right in the doorway to my veggie garden. It can be very interesting getting in and out of the garden when she does this. The web is rather fragile and must be rewoven after a heavy rain. Fortunately that usually means the web moves down the garden fence and we can then move freely through the gate. We had a small garden spider weave a web in a rose bush this past summer. She never reappeared after a heavy shower came through.

Of course if you have read the top of my profile page recently you will remember that one of the most endearing characteristics of many spiders is that they kill and eat their mate shortly after he has done his brief job.

Pesky (and tastey) males.
