A DEEP SUBJECT

The current mood of greenwitch at www.imood.com

moon phases

I sincerely hope today is no indication of the kind of week this will be.

I was sitting milking Selena this morning and a rap was heard on the barn door followed by Rainman's announcement that there was no water and he was going to buy bottles of water to warm the kid milk.

I was confounded.

I went to bed Sunday night and all was well. Water came out of the faucet just fine. What could have possibly happened over night while we all slept?

I called the plumber who arrived two hours later. I was a bit perturbed by the dishes piling up everywhere and the icky mess in the toilets from flushing them with water from the pool cover. I really wanted the water to flow clean and clear at the twist of a knob.

Shortly after the plumbers arrival it became apparent that the problem was not in the house but in the well. The plumber went to get his son. They would have to manually pull the well pipe up out of the 265 foot deep well to see if a wire was damaged.

For a while I was thinking we would be calling 911 for the plumber's son. He had veins popping out all over and his face was getting red. His biceps were bulging (mmmmm). He pulled that pipe up bit by bit and it was cut off after around ten or fifteen feet was towering over us all. This went on for a while and then the problem was discovered. A wire had rusted through and was not making connection so the well pump wouldn't come on. Then the rest of the pipe was pulled up until the well pump itself was resting on the ground in the sun. The pump was tested and was fine. Plumber's son declared it was an excellent work out and was off to who knows what. Knew pipe was brought and layed out on the ground in such length that it ran from the well in the front yard into the back yard and beyond the barn. That is one deep well. The pump and pipe and new wire all went back into the hole in the ground and we once again have water on command.

Amazing how something like a water faucet can be taken so for granted.

Amazing how soothing watching fine young plumber's son can be on a sunny spring day.

Like a cool drink of water.
