When To Use:Violet is cooling. Violet is also an excellent remedy for respiratory problems. A tea or infusion of the dried leaves of violet will cool hot flashes for the menopausal woman. For sore throat and headache gargle with the infusion of violet leaves. The infusion of the root or the whole plant is an excellent rinse for sore mouth and gums also. A syrup made with the root and flowers soothes cough and is calming allowing sleep. The syrup may also be used to relieve insomnia. Gather the flowers from areas far from roads and other contaminated areas and add to salads for their sweetness and beauty. A salve made from oil infused with fresh flowers and leaves of violet along with some dried chamomile and eyebright is an excellent eye cream and makeup remover that will reduce puffy eyes. Chewing the fresh leaves and applying to dry irritated skin brings quick relief.
