I was going to do the fun picture filled entry but I never transfered the pictures from camera to computer.
So, instead, you get bummer entry #412.
I took my dad to see the orthopedic doc this morning because his left leg had started to hurt and that just didn't seem right. One X-ray later we learned that the femoral head is necrotic and will have to be replaced. Seems the blood supply to said femoral head is somewhat lacking and the screws that were put in to hold that bone together after the fracture have shifted. Ouch.
Surgery is scheduled for March 3rd. The plan is he gets out of the hospital ASAP (like two days) so he doesn't lose any strength. Now we just need some anti-anemia mojo and all should be fine. The trick is that when you mess with the end of a long bone you are messing with marrow that is rich in red blood cells. As a matter of fact I think that is one of the places that red blood cells are made. Anemia is a big risk in this situation.
The plan for tomorrow morning is to make a big goat meat stew for him. Gotta pump the iron rich food into him and goat meet is one of the best sources (razz at beef eaters). I have been feeding him well since he has been home so hopefully he will do well.
