The wind has stopped.
We came home Friday afternoon to howling gusts that were sure to cause some kind of damage. The canopy on the deck was beginning to buckle so A. and I had no choice but to take it down. That meant freeing it from the cinder blocks that were weighing it down. We managed to get it down but it was a tedious and chilly task. The tarps on the barn roof nearly blew off completely and the power was out for a while too. Over all not too bad an experience considering the power of the wind.
Yesterday was a very windy day at the market and it was quite stressful trying to do business while holding loose objects down. I sold out though since it was the last day of the season at the local market.
Today was cloudy and cool and business at the college town market was pretty good. I feel very tired right now given the tension of yesterday and the fact that we are at the end of five months of frenetic market activity. A. has a friend from her class over right now who came by the market at the end of the day. They are not usually play friends but a new friend is a good thing to have. The child's parents recently divorced and the dad has custody of the child. The dad is a very nice guy and I wish them both the best in their new life as a team of two.
What else.... let's see..... Oh, I talked with the owner of the local winery that sells at the college town market about getting grape must to wrap cheese in. Yummy drunken goat cheese. It is a new recipe I haven't tried yet but I bet it will be very tasty. In the past I have made a pressed ricotta style cheese that I soaked in a brine mixed with merlot wine. It turned a lovely shade of purple on the outside and tasted very good. The new recipe is a hard aged cheese that is wraped in the grape must that is left over after the grapes are fermented in the early stages of wine making.
